The DOG XL exists because a tracker sized for a beagle disappears on a mastiff’s collar, and because a bigger housing fits a bigger battery. Tractive specs it at about 115 g, recommends it for dogs roughly 55 lb and up, and fits collars up to about 4 cm (1.6 in) wide.
Functionally it is the DOG 6 in large format: live location updates every two to three seconds in live mode, escape alerts, activity and sleep tracking, over the same LTE-M cellular service and subscription. The battery is the upgrade — up to roughly 30 days with power-saving zones, against the DOG 6’s 10-to-14 day figure — and the housing is waterproof and submersible.
Choose it over the standard DOG 6 on fit and runtime, not features. Skip cellular trackers entirely where there is no coverage; a radio-based system like the Garmin Alpha TT 25 is the off-grid alternative.

Sizing & compatibility
Fit depends on your dog's measurements. Measure girth (the widest part of the ribcage) and consult the manufacturer's size chart before buying — a poor fit can cause chafing or let an escape-prone dog back out of the harness.
